Avulsed tooth or Knocked out tooth 

When your tooth is completely dislodged or knocked out of your mouth.

WHAT TO DO WITH AN AVULSED OR KNOCKED OUT TOOTH ? 

  •  If your tooth is completely out of your mouth, do not panic, save your tooth by picking it up by the crown also known as the top of the tooth. Be careful not to touch the root. 
  • If possible rinse the tooth with warm water and place it in the socket, if you are unable to do this the next step would be to find a small zip lock bag and fill it with cold milk. Place the tooth in the bag. 
  • Call Prime Dental Care right away. The tooth must be placed in the socket within 1 to 2 hours in order to save it. 

Fractured or Cracked tooth 

Sports accidents, trauma to the mouth and bruxsim (grinding teeth due to stress or habit) can all lead to having breaks or cracks in the tooth. A fractured tooth can be quite painful if the root of the tooth is involved. If you have had any trauma to the tooth which has led to fracture try to save those fragments and bring them to your dentist. Until your appointment, try to avoid placing your tongue on the tooth, chewing with it or anything that can cause the tooth to become loose. 

Lost filling or crown

A loose filling or crown can occur and can cause sudden onset of sensitivity. If you notice a lost filling or crown try to save the crown in many cases recementation is possible.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A LOST FILLING OR A CROWN? 

  • The first step for a lost filling or a crown would be to try to find the lost dental work and place it in a bag. In some cases dental work such as a crown that has come off can be recemented depending on the condition of the tooth. 
  • Give our office a call and let us know the type of emergency that has occurred and you would like to be seen the same day. 
  • If lost dental work is not replaced it can lead to complications such as a tooth infection or a cavity.
