Gum Disease

Gum disease or periodontal disease is an infection that is caused by the buildup of plaque and tartar which irritates the soft tissue around the gingiva. Gum disease can progress and can cause damage to teeth, gingiva, and even the jawbone supporting the teeth.

It is best to receive treatment to prevent irreversible damage to your teeth and surrounding structures.

Periodontal Disease Treatment

Scaling and Root Planing

The most common form of periodontal treatment. Scaling and root planing also known as deep cleaning, helps remove calculus or tartar buildup below the gum level. This treatment is usually done in two visits and requires local anesthetic.

Arestin

After Scaling and root planing, Arestin may be placed. It is an antibiotic treatment used to treat infected gums.

Periodontal Splinting

Involves bonding weak teeth together that have suffered from periodontal disease. This procedure can allow the teeth to become stronger and more stable.
